Polish F-16s Intercept Russian Il-20 Over Baltic Sea

Warsaw: Polish F-16 fighter jets intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea on Monday, as announced by Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. The incident occurred 60 kilometers northwest of Leba, with the Polish aircraft responding to the presence of the Russian plane.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Russian aircraft was operating in international airspace without a flight plan and had its transponder turned off. Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz assured that there was no violation of Polish airspace during the interception. He emphasized the vigilance of the Polish Armed Forces in monitoring regional security and protecting the national border.

The recent interception follows a similar event three days prior when Polish F-16s intercepted another Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft near the coastal city of Kolobrzeg. There has been no immediate response from Russian authorities regarding these incidents.
