Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the appointment of Rustem Umerov as the new head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service. Umerov, who previously held positions as Defense Minister and National Security and Defense Council chief, was named during an address broadcast by Ukrainian television.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Zelenskyy also appointed Ihor Klymenko as the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. Umerov's experience includes serving as Ukraine's defense minister and leading the State Property Fund, as well as being a member of the Ukrainian parliament. Klymenko, on the other hand, has been serving as Ukraine's interior minister since 2023, following his leadership of the National Police.

These appointments are part of a broader reshuffle in Ukraine's government and security institutions. In recent weeks, several changes have been announced by Zelenskyy affecting the cabinet, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the military leadership.
