Baku: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared that former US President Donald Trump played a pivotal role in achieving a lasting peace in the South Caucasus. In a letter to Trump, Aliyev emphasized that the first anniversary of a peace summit involving himself, Trump, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan marked a significant milestone for peace between Baku and Yerevan.

According to Anadolu Agency, Aliyev commended Trump's determination and resolve in ending a conflict that spanned three decades, paving the way for reconciliation and partnership between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The trilateral joint declaration signed at the White House summit, along with a peace deal and the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, were acknowledged as critical components for regional peace and stability.

Aliyev further highlighted the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) as a key transit project with potential to enhance economic cooperation and transport connectivity, contributing to regional security.

Expressing gratitude for Trump's leadership, Aliyev noted the positive changes in Azerbaijani society, including the lifting of cargo transportation restrictions between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The initialing of an agreement on August 8, 2025, by Aliyev, Pashinyan, and Trump, aimed to end decades of conflict with commitments to cease hostilities and normalize relations.

Aliyev also highlighted the significance of the summit in Washington as a "historic milestone" in Azerbaijani-US relations. The visit of US Vice President JD Vance to Azerbaijan and the signing of a strategic partnership charter were seen as indicators of the progress in bilateral relations. Aliyev appreciated the extension of a waiver on Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act, viewing it as a step towards restoring historical justice.

Aliyev expressed a commitment to further developing friendship and strategic partnership with the United States, looking forward to continued cooperation in these areas.
