Sudan: Sudanese army forces repelled an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the allied Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) on Qaisan city in Blue Nile state near the border with Ethiopia, authorities said on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Qaisan governorate released a statement indicating that the attack specifically targeted farmers during the harvest period, labeling the incident as 'a full-fledged war crime.' The statement further condemned the aggression, highlighting its impact on citizens' livelihoods, security, and stability.

There has been no information available regarding casualties from the incident, and no immediate response from the RSF has been reported. This attack follows a similar incident on July 10, where the Sudanese army successfully repelled an attack on the areas of Deim Saad and Yara in the Qaisan governorate.

The Sudanese army maintains control over large parts of the Blue Nile state, while the SPLM has been engaged in conflict with the government since 2011, seeking autonomy for the South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions. The RSF has been in conflict with the Sudanese army since April 2023 over disputes about its integration into the military. This ongoing conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths, displaced 13 million people, and exacerbated famine, contributing to one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises.
