Ankara: Russia on Monday delivered a confrontational message to the UN Security Council, asserting that Moscow will reject any peace settlement that compromises its core security interests as the conflict in Ukraine reaches the 4 1/2-year mark.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya emphasized to the Security Council that "there will be no agreements at the expense of Russia's security interests." Nebenzya described recent calls for a ceasefire as a strategic deception, labeling them a "ceasefire trap" designed to allow Ukraine the opportunity to regroup and rearm.

Nebenzya argued that meaningful diplomatic dialogue cannot occur as long as the international community continues to engage with Moscow through "the language of ultimatums, terror, and threats." He criticized Western nations, accusing them of perpetuating the conflict by arming Ukraine while maintaining that they are not direct participants in the war.

The ambassador further accused Western countries of transforming Ukraine into a tool of military political pressure against Moscow, suggesting that Western powers are deliberately encouraging Kyiv to disregard previous agreements. Nebenzya expressed disdain for European colleagues, mocking their repetitive speeches and their support for Ukraine's defiance.

The meeting's timing coincides with the anniversary of Ukraine's declaration of independence in 1991 and marks 4 1/2 years since the onset of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
