Ankara: Qatar pledged on Thursday to provide all possible assistance to alleviate the hardships facing the Iranian people, according to Iranian media. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed this commitment during a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Sheikh Mohammed emphasized that Qatar does not want the Iranian people to endure difficulties while other regional countries merely observe.
According to Anadolu Agency, Sheikh Mohammed assured that Qatar will provide any assistance possible to support the Iranian people, whom he described as brotherly. The remarks, reported by Iran's Tasnim news agency, reflect the Qatari leadership's deep and sincere respect for Iran, despite recent events that have tested regional alliances.
Sheikh Mohammed conveyed that Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani regards President Pezeshkian as a brother, underscoring the enduring ties between the two nations. He stated that Doha is committed to restoring regional stability and acknowledges Iran's outreach efforts to promote security and calm in the region.
The Qatari Prime Minister also addressed concerns regarding Iranian pilots allegedly detained by Doha, stating that the matter would be pursued sincerely. This visit to Tehran marks Sheikh Mohammed's first trip to Iran since the escalation of conflicts involving US and Israeli strikes earlier this year.
The visit occurs as Doha continues its diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions between Iran and the United States. The US and Iran had signed a memorandum of understanding in June, facilitated by mediation from Pakistan and Qatar. However, implementation has faced challenges due to disagreements over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial maritime route for global oil supplies.
The backdrop of these diplomatic engagements includes past hostilities, such as Iran's targeting of the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which hosts US military forces, during the 12-day war with Israel in June 2025. Retaliatory attacks were also launched by Iran on several Gulf countries, including Qatar, following US-Israeli military actions earlier this year.
