Kyiv: At least 12 people were killed and dozens injured in overnight Russian strikes across Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday. In a statement on Telegram, Zelenskyy noted that this figure included seven people killed in an attack on a railway depot in Kyiv.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy reported that four people were killed and 13 injured in Boryspil, where a five-story residential building was damaged, leading to the evacuation of about 50 residents. The Ukrainian president also mentioned strikes on industrial facilities in the area.
In Odesa and its vicinity, strikes damaged energy and export infrastructure, resulting in thousands of households losing electricity, Zelenskyy stated. He also reported damage to a border crossing with Romania.
Zelenskyy added that other regions, including Kherson, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Sumy, and Dnipropetrovsk, were also affected. Among those killed was an Indian citizen, he said. The president attributed the scale of the casualties to inadequate air-defense capabilities and urged international partners to increase deliveries of air-defense systems through initiatives like the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) and bilateral arrangements.
Rescue and recovery operations continued in Kyiv and its surrounding areas, with nearly 350 emergency workers deployed, Zelenskyy informed.
Separately, the Russian Defense Ministry stated that its armed forces conducted a large-scale overnight strike using long-range precision weapons and attack drones targeting Ukraine's military facilities. The ministry claimed that the strikes hit military-industrial and fuel-and-energy facilities in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, involved in the production of missile and drone systems, as well as facilities supplying fuel to Ukrainian forces, including the Borispol oil refinery.
The Russian ministry also reported striking facilities in Odesa and the Odesa region, including ports used to store military-related cargo and fuel. It claimed that Russia's Vostok group of forces captured Chervona Krynytsia and Novopavlivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Additionally, the ministry noted that Russia's air defenses destroyed 13 aerial bombs and 1,050 drones in response to Ukrainian air attacks.
In Russia's Samara region, authorities reported damage to civilian facilities as Russian forces attempted to repel a Ukrainian drone attack. Regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev indicated no deaths according to preliminary information, with emergency and Defense Ministry units working at the affected sites.
Damage from a drone attack was also reported in the port area of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region. Regional Governor Alexander Drozdenko reported a fire at the scene, with emergency services working to clarify the extent of the damage.
Russian authorities and media also reported a wave of messages alleging explosive devices had been placed at various social facilities in the Leningrad region. Checks at affected facilities were prompted, and regional authorities described the messages as an attempt to disrupt the start of the school year.
In Moscow, visitors were evacuated from the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, and tours were canceled for several hours. The museum was temporarily closed, and reports indicated another museum in the city was also closed for technical reasons.
Independent verification of claims by both sides remains challenging due to the ongoing conflict.
