Centcom: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that American forces have initiated strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets within Iran.

According to Anadolu Agency, CENTCOM communicated through a post on the US social media platform X that the strikes commenced at 12 p.m. ET. The military operations are a response to the IRGC's recent attempted attacks on commercial vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz, as well as threats against American service members stationed in the area.

Prior to the official statement from CENTCOM, Axios had reported on the new military actions, citing information from US officials. These developments are part of ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington, which have escalated since the conflict began with Iran in late February.

In June, a framework deal was reached with the assistance of mediators from Pakistan and Qatar. However, the situation intensified in July when the US initiated a two-week bombing campaign and reinstated a naval blockade due to disputes over navigation rights in the strategic waterway.
