Kathmandu: The death toll from devastating floods and mudslides that struck the Nepal-China border late last month has climbed to 1,400, with over 5,800 still missing, official statistics showed on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, of those missing, 848 are foreigners, based on official figures from both Nepal and China. In Nepal, 1,357 bodies have been recovered, while 5,326 people, including 587 foreigners, remain missing, as reported by Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. Over 13,500 individuals have been rescued so far, with rescue operations continuing last weekend.

In China's southwestern Xizang Autonomous Region, known as Tibet, the death toll from mudslides stands at 43, with 519 people still unaccounted for. In response to the crisis, China dispatched a fourth batch of emergency relief supplies to Nepal on Tuesday. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China will continue to support Nepal in overcoming the challenges posed by the disaster.
