Damascus: The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus: The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has voiced 'deep regret' regarding the United States' decision to extend the lifting of its arms embargo on the Greek Cypriot Administration for an additional year.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Cypriot Foreign Ministry issued a statement emphasizing the significance of considering the 'delicate balances' in the Eastern Mediterranean to promote regional peace and stability. The ministry highlighted the critical nature of these actions, especially amid ongoing conflicts and developments in the Middle East.
The statement expressed deep regret over the US administration's decision and cautioned against measures that overlook the realities on the island, ignore the Turkish Cypriot populace, and potentially encourage further armament.
The TRNC called upon international actors to aid in maintaining peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. It urged the adoption of a fair policy that acknowledges the existence of two separate states and peoples on the island.
The ministry reaffirmed the TRNC's commitment to its 'unshakable cooperation and solidarity' with Trkiye. It pledged to take all necessary actions to protect the security and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people.
