Beirut: Israeli forces shelled the outskirts of Beit Jinn in the western Damascus countryside after launching an incursion into southern Syria with nine military vehicles, detaining a shepherd in Daraa province, as reported by Syrian state media.

According to Anadolu Agency, Israeli forces carried out artillery shelling on the outskirts of Beit Jinn, with Alikhbariah TV confirming the attacks. However, the broadcaster did not report the outcome of the shelling, and there was no immediate comment from the Syrian government, which has previously demanded an end to Israeli violations.

In an earlier development, Israeli military vehicles entered the Wadi al-Raqad area, as reported by Syria's Al-Ikhbariya television. The details regarding the nature of their movements remain unspecified. Subsequently, the broadcaster mentioned that an Israeli force detained a shepherd during the incursion into Wadi al-Raqad, though his identity was not disclosed.

Wadi al-Raqad, located in the Yarmouk Basin area of the Daraa countryside, has witnessed repeated Israeli incursions and military movements in recent months. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on Dec. 8, 2024, southern Syria has experienced frequent Israeli incursions. This period marked the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, leading to Israel's occupation of the Syrian buffer zone and other areas.

Damascus continues to demand that Tel Aviv withdraw to the lines held before Dec. 8, 2024, and has reiterated its commitment to the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.
