New York:Japan's prime minister has expressed serious concerns about North Korea's advancing nuclear and missile capabilities, highlighting the threat they pose to global security. Speaking at the 81st UN General Assembly, she underscored the importance of North Korea's complete denuclearization in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi highlighted North Korea's violations of Security Council resolutions, citing the country's nuclear and missile programs and malicious cyber activities, including cryptocurrency thefts. She emphasized the significant threat these pose to international peace and security.

Additionally, Takaichi raised alarm over the increased military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, which she believes could lead to the proliferation of nuclear and missile-related technologies.

Turning to the topic of emerging technologies, Takaichi addressed the national security challenges posed by rapid digital advancements. She described Japan's initiative, the Hiroshima AI Process, aimed at establishing international guidelines for generative AI. Takaichi announced Japan's intention to host an AI safety summit with international partners to tackle risks associated with advanced AI models.

Regarding UN reforms, Takaichi called for a review of the UN Charter, advocating the removal of outdated "enemy states" clauses, aligning with a 2005 General Assembly resolution. She urged member states to unite in reforming the United Nations to make it more resilient and effective.

Takaichi also pointed out the need to reform the composition of the UN Security Council to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities, advocating for the expansion of both permanent and non-permanent seats to enhance the council's legitimacy and global representation.
