New York:Harvey Weinstein, a former Hollywood film producer, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting Miriam Haley in 2006 at his New York apartment.

According to Anadolu Agency, Weinstein, 74, was found guilty last year, and Judge Curtis Farber stated that Weinstein used force against the victim and failed to accept responsibility for his actions. Post-sentence, Weinstein will be monitored for five years and must register as a sex offender.

During the court hearing, Haley described the significant impact the assault had on her life. Weinstein, present in a wheelchair, denied the accusations but apologized to anyone he may have hurt.

Weinstein was a significant figure in Hollywood, involved in producing films such as "Pulp Fiction," "The King's Speech," and "The Artist." His career unravelled in 2017 after investigations by The New York Times and The New Yorker revealed allegations of sexual misconduct, with over 80 women accusing him.

Weinstein was arrested in 2018, convicted in 2020, and initially sentenced to 23 years. However, his conviction was overturned in 2024, leading to a retrial where he was found guilty in Haley's case but acquitted of other charges. A third trial on a separate charge ended without a verdict.

Additionally, Weinstein faces a separate case in California, where he was convicted in 2022 of rape and sexual assault, receiving a 16-year sentence, which is under review for resentencing.

The reports led to the #MeToo movement, in which women around the world shared their experiences of sexual harassment and abuse, often by powerful men in business, politics and entertainment. The movement led to investigations and firings in many countries.
