New York:Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa declared that the Golan Heights, currently occupied by Israel, will remain Syrian territory and that any annexation measures are considered null and void according to UN Security Council resolutions.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Sharaa made these statements during his address at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. He emphasized that attempts to impose facts on the ground cannot undermine Syria's sovereignty or the applicability of international law.

He reiterated that all annexation measures are invalid under UN Security Council Resolution 497. Sharaa referenced a UN General Assembly vote from December 2025, where 123 countries supported a resolution concerning the occupied Syrian Golan, expressing gratitude to the countries that backed it and urging those that abstained to reconsider their stance on Resolution 497.

Furthermore, Sharaa accused Israel of conducting nearly 500 air and artillery strikes, over 1,200 incursions, and around 300 arrests and detentions of Syrians, actions he claimed threaten Syria's stability and defy international consensus. He asserted that these actions revive painful memories for Syrians.

He affirmed Syria's commitment to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and reiterated calls for Israeli forces to withdraw to positions held before December 8, 2024. Sharaa criticized Israel's attempts to establish 'new facts on the ground,' stating that such actions jeopardize regional security and stability.

This address marked President Sharaa's second consecutive appearance before the UN General Assembly, following his participation in the 80th session in September 2025. He is noted as the first Syrian president to attend the assembly since 1967.
