Ankara:Health authorities in Bangladesh reported six additional deaths from dengue fever, increasing the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 201 since January.

According to Anadolu Agency, September has been the deadliest month so far this year, with 104 deaths recorded, followed by August with 43 fatalities. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) noted that 1,868 new dengue hospitalizations occurred in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalized cases this year to over 67,000. Most patients have since been discharged.

Bangladesh has seen higher numbers of dengue infections and related deaths in comparison to the previous year, based on DGHS data. Dengue is spread through bites from infected mosquitoes, and there is no specific treatment for the infection.

In addition, the DGHS reported 11 more child deaths from symptoms resembling measles, raising the overall toll to 1,076 since mid-March. Out of these fatalities, 101 have been confirmed as measles deaths. The number of symptomatic cases has reached 183,449, while confirmed measles cases have risen to 20,851 after 1,270 new infections were reported. In response to the outbreak, the Health Ministry has immunized around 20 million children apart from routine vaccinations.
