New York:Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has committed to strengthening relations with Bangladesh during his inaugural meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. Both leaders reviewed bilateral ties and expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations.

Rahman, who assumed office as prime minister in February, received congratulations from Sharif on Bangladesh's presidency of the 81st General Assembly. Sharif expressed Pakistan's support for Bangladesh's initiatives within the UN framework and reiterated the commitment to deepen mutually beneficial relations between the two countries. Rahman echoed Sharif's sentiments and conveyed his government's desire to enhance bilateral relations.

The discussions also highlighted the intention to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, connectivity, education, tourism, and people-to-people contacts. Both leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration in multilateral forums, particularly the UN.

State-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha News reported that the leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and potential areas of cooperation, underscoring the significance of advancing relations based on mutual respect and understanding.
