New York:United Nations Indonesia's foreign minister emphasized the significance of the Palestinian issue, describing it as a challenge for global conscience and the multilateral system.

According to Anadolu Agency, the foreign minister, Sugiono, addressed the UN General Assembly, urging respect for Palestinian sovereignty and the end of colonialism. He highlighted the breaches of international law in Gaza and the West Bank, drawing parallels to the pre-1945 era before key international declarations and conventions were established.

Sugiono reflected on Indonesia's own struggle for independence, which has informed its steadfast support for Palestinians' right to self-determination. He affirmed Indonesia's commitment to a two-state solution, ensuring an independent and sovereign Palestine in line with international law.

The minister also addressed the broader implications of the Palestinian issue, suggesting it tests the multilateral system's ability to uphold its founding principles and deliver results when necessary.

Sugiono advocated for a stronger, more representative multilateral system, asserting that the solution to imperfect multilateralism is not to reduce it but to enhance it. He announced Indonesia's candidacy for a non-permanent UN Security Council seat for 2029-2030, focusing on fostering unity and advancing peace.

He reiterated Indonesia's commitment to maintaining open dialogue, building consensus, and promoting practical cooperation while upholding the UN Charter. He cited Indonesian peacekeepers' service in Lebanon, emphasizing ongoing commitment beyond specific missions.

Sugiono urged for resilience among nations and institutions, noting that true resilience involves progressing together despite challenges. He concluded by highlighting Indonesia's focus on resilience through food and energy security, education, healthcare, and economic strength.
