New York:Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertugruloglu met with Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General Ismail Vild es-Sheikh Ahmed at the Turkish House in New York during the 81st UN General Assembly.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ertugruloglu congratulated Ahmed on his recent appointment as secretary-general and expressed a desire for continued close engagement and cooperation. He emphasized that the TRNC, an observer member of the OIC, actively takes part in the organization's high-level meetings and events and is willing to host an OIC event in the future.

Ertugruloglu also highlighted the TRNC's aim to strengthen relations with the OIC Secretariat and member states, noting the importance of the organization's support in addressing the isolation faced by Turkish Cypriots. He provided Ahmed with an overview of the Cyprus issue's historical context and detailed the Cyprus policy jointly pursued with T¼rkiye.

Cyprus has experienced a prolonged conflict between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, with various UN-led diplomatic efforts failing to achieve a lasting resolution. Recent peace initiatives have stalled, including a 2017 attempt in Switzerland involving T¼rkiye, Greece, and the UK as guarantor countries.
