Ankara:According to Anadolu Agency, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that intelligence agencies misunderstood a warning from Hamas before the events of October 7, 2023. Gallant explained that the message, which came to Israel through the Shin Bet security agency, suggested that Hamas intended to "shake the prisons." He noted that Shin Bet and the military intelligence directorate, Aman, interpreted this as a reference to the abduction of Israeli researcher Elizabeth Tsurkov in Iraq. Tsurkov was released in September 2025.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar had communicated an unusual warning to Israel weeks before October 7, indicating a forthcoming "earthquake in the prisons" related to Palestinian detainees. However, the report did not specify the intermediary involved.

Opposition leader Yair Golan accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of ignoring warnings related to the October 7 events. In a post on X, Golan claimed that Netanyahu received multiple warnings about a potential Hamas attack but chose to disregard them. He cited investigations by The New York Times and Israel's Haaretz, stating that intelligence and regional leaders had personally contacted Netanyahu to present the seriousness of the situation.

Golan also criticized Netanyahu for weakening the Palestinian Authority and suppressing warnings of an impending disaster. He vowed that if his party came to power, they would establish an inquiry into the failures of the current administration, particularly those of Netanyahu. Despite these calls, Netanyahu has resisted demands for an inquiry and denied reports of a warning from the UAE president about a major Hamas operation.

In response to the October 7 events, Israel launched an offensive on the Gaza Strip, resulting in over 74,000 deaths and approximately 175,000 injuries, leaving the enclave in devastation.
