Washington:US policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged following recent high-level talks, US Ambassador to China David Perdue stated, affirming the administration's adherence to the one-China policy.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ambassador Perdue emphasized that US support for the one-China policy is steadfast, noting, "Our support for that has not changed." He further stated that the US does not support Taiwan's independence or coercion.

Perdue countered claims that Washington is insufficiently backing Taiwan defensively, describing President Donald Trump as exceptionally strong on Taiwan. He noted that Trump has authorized a 50% increase in arms transfers to Taipei compared to any president since 1979, including an $11 billion package, with further discussions ongoing.

Perdue mentioned that Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping discuss Taiwan during their meetings. Trump has reportedly suggested to Xi that Washington sells defense equipment globally, even inquiring if Beijing would like to purchase American arms.

Trump stated he did not extensively discuss Taiwan during his meetings with Xi, noting that the Chinese leader "understands very much" his stance on the issue.

On regional security matters, Perdue highlighted that Washington has warned Beijing against supplying intelligence, components, or military hardware to Tehran amid the ongoing Iran conflict. He reiterated Xi's commitments against Iran developing nuclear weapons, supporting open navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and rejecting maritime transit fees.

Regarding emerging technologies, Perdue noted that Chinese officials are becoming aware of the risks associated with advanced AI systems. He confirmed that the US intends to maintain diplomatic dialogue with Beijing on these technological threats.
