Former Israeli Premier Accuses Netanyahu of War Plans to Delay Elections

Jerusalem:Former Israeli Premier Ehud Barak has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of "laying the groundwork" for a war that could delay the general elections scheduled for October 27.

According to Anadolu Agency, Barak expressed his concerns during an appearance on Channel 12, where he harshly criticized Netanyahu for allegedly preparing for conflict as a means to postpone the elections. Barak stated, "Netanyahu is preparing the infrastructure to go to war in a way that would postpone the elections."

Barak's comments are part of a broader domestic debate surrounding the use of security issues in the election campaign. He criticized Netanyahu's integrity, saying he "lies as he breathes, as he eats French fries, and as he leaves a restaurant without paying," and emphasized the importance of removing Netanyahu from power on October 27.

The accusations come amid heightened tensions, with Netanyahu warning that Israel could face attacks ahead of the election and holding consultations with senior security officials regarding developments on several fronts. He has also threatened retaliation in response to an incident involving Flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30, asserting that an investigation is underway to determine the perpetrator's motives and potential external influences.

The Flydubai incident has become a point of contention in the election campaign, with opponents accusing Netanyahu of exploiting security issues to strengthen his political position. Barak's remarks coincide with ongoing Israeli military operations in areas such as the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria.

This election marks Israel's first general vote since the events of October 7, 2023. Opposition parties have ramped up efforts to coordinate and replace Netanyahu's government through the electoral process.
