New Alamein:Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has emphasized the importance of prioritizing peaceful solutions to conflicts and crises across Africa. He highlighted the need to support state institutions and respect sovereignty during his opening speech at the Alamein Africa Forum in New Alamein.
According to Anadolu Agency, President Sisi stressed that economic development cannot thrive in unstable environments, underlining that stability is essential for investors, manufacturers, and farmers to operate effectively. He emphasized that security starts with supporting national institutions and respecting their unity and sovereignty while prioritizing peaceful resolutions and good neighborliness.
The Alamein Africa Forum, which spans three days, gathers 1,500 officials, business leaders, investors, and representatives from financial institutions across Africa. The event focuses on economic development and continental integration. President Sisi noted that Africa's private sector drives more than 70% of the continent's GDP, although 85% of its transactions occur with companies outside Africa.
Despite existing trade agreements, intra-African trade has been limited to about 18% of total trade in recent years. President Sisi also addressed international issues, expressing Africa's desire for a peaceful and stable world and lamenting the continent's burden from global crises, such as the ongoing energy crisis impacting fuel and fertilizer prices, and supply chain disruptions.
The African Union summit in Addis Ababa earlier this year approved the biennial hosting of the Alamein Africa Forum in New Alamein. Egypt organizes the forum in cooperation with the African Export-Import Bank and the African Union Development Agency.
