Afghanistan Opens Strategic Road Linking to China Through Wakhan Corridor

Ankara:The Wakhan Corridor in northeastern Badakhshan province now hosts a newly inaugurated road connecting Afghanistan to China. This unpaved road stretches 121 kilometers (75 miles) and took two years to complete.

According to Anadolu Agency, the construction of the road was a significant investment, costing 365 million afghanis ($5.5 million). The road provides a direct link between Afghanistan and China's Xinjiang region.

Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Abdul Latif Mansour highlighted the road's strategic, political, and economic significance during the inauguration ceremony. He emphasized that the Afghan government prioritizes such projects, especially in provinces with the greatest need, and noted that the engineering work was carried out entirely by Afghan professionals without foreign involvement.
