Brazil’s Presidential Election Highlights Polarization

Ankara:Approximately 159 million Brazilians are eligible to vote in a highly polarized presidential election. The contest is primarily between incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of the Workers' Party and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party. This election is marked by significant security concerns and sharp exchanges between the candidates.

According to Anadolu Agency, recent polling data suggests Lula is leading in terms of first-round voting intentions. However, the potential second-round runoff appears to be much closer, with a Quaest poll indicating Lula at 39% and Bolsonaro at 34%, and both candidates tied at 42% if a runoff occurs.

Under Brazilian election law, if no candidate wins more than 50% of the valid votes, the top two candidates will proceed to a runoff on October 25.
