Sanaa:Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi has announced the initiation of a military operation aimed at retaking the capital, Sanaa, from the Houthi militias and restoring state institutions.
According to Anadolu Agency, Alimi revealed that Operation 'Dawn of Yemen' has commenced with the involvement of Yemen's armed forces and other military formations, supported by allies referred to as the country's 'brothers and friends.' The operation seeks to end the Houthi coup and usher in a new era of freedom, peace, and stability for Yemen.
Military spokesman Majed al-Nazili stated that the Yemeni army has initiated a strategic offensive on Sanaa, employing modern capabilities in the operation. This announcement coincides with military actions against the Houthis in several regions, including the strategic Bab el-Mandeb region.
Earlier, the Yemeni army reported that government forces had seized control of the Dhubab district and strategic positions around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait after clashes with the Houthis. They have also taken control of the Dhubab airport and cut off the road linking Dhubab and Mokha. Additionally, the pro-government Southern Giants Brigades have announced a 'decisive' military operation against the Houthis in the Bab el-Mandeb area.
The Houthis have maintained control over Sanaa since September 2014, along with large areas in northern and western Yemen, while the internationally recognized government and allied forces hold territories primarily in the south and east.
