India Reports Injuries in Strait of Hormuz Incident Involving Tanker

Khasab:Eleven Indian citizens were injured when a Panama-flagged commercial vessel, the 'MT On Peace,' was struck by a projectile while navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Anadolu Agency, India's Ministry of External Affairs stated that 17 of the 19 crew members on board the vessel were Indian nationals. The incident occurred early Tuesday, and 12 crew members in total were injured. With the help of Omani authorities, the injured crew members have been evacuated to Khasab, Oman, for medical treatment.

India expressed deep concern over the ongoing attacks on shipping in the region and reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of such incidents to ensure peace and stability. The Ministry emphasized that attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure must stop, and safe navigation and commerce through international waterways should be restored promptly.

The incident occurs amid heightened regional tensions following US and Israeli attacks on Iran at the end of February, with Tehran responding by targeting Israeli sites and US military installations. This conflict has severely disrupted the navigation through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy supply.

Iran has linked the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to the cessation of hostilities, lifting of sanctions, release of frozen assets, and fulfillment of commitments by the United States.
