Genocide in Gaza: Women Suffer Amid Health System Collapse

Gaza:Women in Gaza are enduring severe hardships as the region marks three years of ongoing conflict with significant impacts on their health and livelihoods. The conflict has led to widespread deaths, injuries, and rising miscarriage rates, compounded by the collapse of the health system, forcing many women to give birth under unsafe conditions.

According to Anadolu Agency, data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics revealed that since October 7, 2023, 12,400 women have been killed in Gaza. UN Women reported over 38,000 women and girls killed between October 2023 and December 2025. The majority of these fatalities occurred during the initial six months of the conflict.

The ongoing crisis has severely impacted reproductive health. Miscarriages have increased by 300% since the war began, with 3,958 recorded between January and June 2026, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. Many births are happening outside hospitals in unsafe conditions, exacerbated by hunger and malnutrition.

The war has also altered family dynamics, as more women are now heads of households. UN Women's report shows a rise from 9% to 14% in the proportion of households led by women, adding economic and social burdens amid displacement and poverty.

Despite a ceasefire agreement in October 2025, the situation remains dire with continued violations leading to further casualties and injuries, as reported by Gaza's Health Ministry. With infrastructure devastated, the humanitarian crisis persists, affecting access to essential services and living conditions for women and girls in Gaza.
