Ankara:1,275 people fled several villages in Sudan's southeastern Blue Nile state in a single day due to worsening security conditions, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
According to Anadolu Agency, the displacement took place on Tuesday in the Wad al-Mahi locality, with affected villages including Amiri, Jabal Nimr, Abu Qadaf, Bashkarkat, Ab Jankour, Makla, Matangiya, Jabal al-Nour, Menza, and Manshiling. The displaced residents relocated to areas in the Roseires locality.
The IOM noted that the situation in the region remains tense and highly volatile, and it is closely monitoring the developments. This recent displacement brings the total number displaced from villages in Wad al-Mahi to 6,800 over the past four days.
Previously, on September 13, the IOM reported that 99,277 people, representing 19,497 households, were displaced in Blue Nile state between January 11 and August 23. The state has experienced increased military activity following attacks by the Rapid Support Forces and the allied Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North in several areas.
Sudan's humanitarian crisis has worsened since a war erupted in April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces over military unification issues, leading to tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of 13 million people.
