School Employee Killed in Knife Attack at Polish Primary School

Leszczydol-Nowiny:A school employee was killed and two others were injured during a knife attack at John Paul II Primary School, northeast of Warsaw, marking the second school-related assault in Poland within two days.

According to Anadolu Agency, a 15-year-old former student entered the school in Leszczydol-Nowiny and attacked three individuals, including the principal. The principal managed to overpower the suspect before police detained him. The other victims were identified as a teacher and a janitor.

Despite efforts to save the life of a 37-year-old school employee, resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful, as stated by police. This attack follows an incident on Wednesday at a vocational school in Ostroleka, where a 19-year-old student with a machete injured nine people, including five students and two teachers. The suspect in that case was also found with a homemade explosive device.

In response to these events, Poland's national police headquarters announced increased patrols and preventive checks around schools. They have also detained a 17-year-old in Sierpc after threats to attack his school were reported by classmates. Police seized his mobile phone, which contained evidence of searches related to a planned attack.

Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski highlighted the importance of cooperation between teachers and police in these interventions. Prime Minister Donald Tusk convened an emergency meeting of ministers to address the situation, as announced by a government spokesperson on social media.
