Bear Attack in Mongolia Sparks Emergency Measures

Ulaanbaatar:A bear attack has resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This incident has led authorities to implement emergency measures and allocate 1.8 billion Mongolian tugriks (approximately $500,000) for resident protection against wildlife attacks.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change reported 754 incidents of bears entering populated areas nationwide this year, highlighting a growing concern.

In Ulaanbaatar alone, authorities have documented 28 bear-related incidents in the city's green belt area this year, with 24 of these cases confirmed. This has prompted the issuance of permits for the controlled culling of 27 brown bears in several provinces and the capital to address public safety and health concerns. To date, six bears have been culled under police supervision.

The government's financial allocation will be utilized to acquire tranquilizer guns, capture nets, and fuel for vehicles used by protected-area administrations in response to these wildlife threats.
