Jakarta:A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of the United Arab Emirates on Friday, causing a fire that was later extinguished.
According to Anadolu Agency, the incident occurred at 1000GMT, approximately 13 nautical miles west of Al Jazeera, UAE. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported receiving information from multiple sources about the vessel being hit by the projectile.
The status of the crew, the extent of the damage, and the potential environmental impact remain unclear. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and vessels in the vicinity have been advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities.
This event took place amidst rising tensions in the region, following an earlier report by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) about an LPG carrier being struck and catching fire while allegedly attempting to navigate the Strait of Hormuz via an 'illegal route.'
