Cortona:Thieves have made off with approximately 30,000 bottles of wine valued at $5.6 million from the Marchesi Antinori winery in central Italy.
According to Anadolu Agency, the heist occurred on Sunday night. The thieves managed to disable alarm systems and surveillance cameras before entering the facility with two trucks. They utilized forklifts to load bottles of Tignanello, Solaia, and Guado al Tasso wines.
Marchesi Antinori CEO Renzo Cotarella described the incident as the work of a "highly trained gang," noting that the scale of the theft is unprecedented for Italian wineries. The company has advised customers globally to be wary of any wine offers that do not come through official sales channels.
