Homs:Syrian security forces have successfully dismantled a cell linked to the ISIS terrorist group in the countryside of Homs, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the prevention of planned attacks.
According to Anadolu Agency, the operation was conducted by the General Intelligence Directorate and the Internal Security Forces in the Al-Houla area. The authorities reported that two explosive devices, intended for attacks, were seized during the operation.
The arrested suspects were reportedly tasked with the receipt and transportation of explosive devices on behalf of ISIS. They had also been conducting surveillance of places of worship and Internal Security patrols for potential targets. One suspect was apprehended while attempting to plant an explosive device on a railway track.
Ongoing investigations aim to identify and pursue additional members of the cell and to uncover the full extent of its connections and activities. Earlier this week, Syrian authorities announced the arrest of a senior ISIS operative linked to a December 2025 mosque bombing that resulted in eight fatalities and 18 injuries.
In previous operations, security forces dismantled another ISIS cell across four provinces, including Homs, and confiscated explosives ready for attacks. These actions are part of heightened security measures following the fall of the Bashar Assad regime in December 2024.
