Kyiv:Ukraine has reiterated its support for the International Criminal Court (ICC), emphasizing its commitment to the court's independence and integrity. This affirmation follows the announcement of US sanctions against the ICC earlier on Friday.
According to Anadolu Agency, a statement from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, posted on the social media platform X, highlighted the significance of the ICC for Ukraine. As a State Party to the Rome Statute, Ukraine views the ICC as crucial in its quest for accountability for Russian atrocities and in delivering justice for victims and survivors.
The statement further expressed Ukraine's dedication to collaborating with other States Parties to the Rome Statute to ensure the effective functioning of the ICC.
The Ukrainian statement was released following US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's announcement of sanctions against the ICC. Rubio also issued a warning to "end the ICC" if it continued what he described as "threats."
The ICC, located in The Hague, functions as an independent international tribunal tasked with prosecuting individuals for genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.
