London:British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Saturday reiterated the UK's support for Ukraine during a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Anadolu Agency, Burnham expressed solidarity with Ukraine in light of the recent Russian attacks. Discussions between the two leaders also covered sanctions on Russia and the significance of maintaining pressure on Moscow.
The Prime Minister's Office emphasized the UK’s determination to enhance sanctions against Russia, building on recent measures. The UK is prepared to take further steps to limit Russia's ability to continue its military actions. The statement urged Moscow to agree to an energy ceasefire to halt attacks on energy facilities, highlighting that such a ceasefire could positively impact global markets.
Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband reinforced the UK's support for Ukraine in talks with Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine's foreign minister. Miliband expressed the UK's commitment to standing with Ukraine until it prevails, as he noted on social media.
These developments followed US President Donald Trump's announcement of a successful call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which a deal was reached for Russia to supply diesel fuel to the US and global markets. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy criticized this agreement, viewing it as a sign of weakness if sanctions are eased without a de-escalation agreement.
