Tanker Fire Incident Reported East of Strait of Hormuz

Accra:A tanker caught fire after sustaining damage while sailing east of the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, as reported by the Iranian Navy.

According to Anadolu Agency, the navy's public relations office stated that monitoring teams detected the tanker around midday after it switched off its tracking systems and attempted to traverse a 'restricted area.'

The statement did not disclose the cause of the damage or fire, nor did it provide the identity of the vessel or information about the crew and potential casualties.

In response to the incident, the navy has implemented a new operational deployment strategy, positioning units east of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman. The navy emphasized that it is continuously monitoring vessel movements within these regions.

Additionally, the Iranian Navy cautioned vessels against disabling electronic tracking equipment and urged them to coordinate with Iranian armed forces to ensure safe passage through the area.
