Macron Addresses Youth Concerns Amid High School Protests in France

Paris:French President Emmanuel Macron has recognized the 'legitimate anxieties' of young people amid widespread high school protests across the nation, condemning the violence that has occurred during these demonstrations. This statement was relayed by government spokesperson Maud Bregeon on Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Bregeon indicated that Macron believes the concerns of the youth have been 'politically exploited and transformed into urban violence.' The president criticized the 'unacceptable scenes' of violence, particularly those witnessed on Tuesday.

Macron has instructed the government to deliver 'clear and concrete answers' in the upcoming weeks. These responses are to include measures aimed at safeguarding teachers and evaluating school facilities. The government has already deployed 2,000 of the 3,000 substitute teachers it promised, as confirmed by Bregeon.

Education Minister Edouard Geffray reported earlier on Wednesday that more than one-third of the substitute teachers have been assigned to assist students. The protesters are demanding increased education funding and expressing opposition to the Parcoursup university admissions platform.

Macron has called for demonstrators to maintain calm and respect both people and property. Since the protest movement began, over 6,800 individuals, predominantly minors, have been detained, according to Le Parisien. Additionally, the national police watchdog, IGPN, has launched 24 investigations into allegations of police violence.
