Ramallah:Israeli army operations in the occupied West Bank have intensified, including actions such as the seizure of harvested olives and demolition of agricultural structures, disrupting farmers during the crucial olive harvest season.
According to Anadolu Agency, Palestinian rights organization Al-Baidar reported that Israeli forces assaulted a Palestinian individual in the Abu Sharif area, located between Deir Dibwan and Burqa, east of Ramallah. The forces reportedly confiscated the individual's vehicle and olive harvest.
The rights group highlighted that these actions are detrimental to Palestinians’ livelihoods, especially during the olive harvest season. In Hebron's southern province, Israeli forces demolished agricultural structures in the Ghaziywa area near the village of Susiya, affecting facilities essential for agricultural activities.
Al-Baidar also reported that in the northern province of Tulkarm, Israeli forces are preventing hundreds of farmers in Deir al-Ghusun from accessing their land beyond the separation wall to harvest olives, despite having permits. This blockade risks significant economic losses for farmers, as olive picking is both time-sensitive and a major income source for Palestinian families.
The organization added that in the Tel Ma'in area of Hebron, harvested olives were stolen by Israeli occupiers. These incidents occur amid an increase in attacks against Palestinian farmers in the West Bank.
The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission documented 136 attacks related to the olive harvest by Israeli forces and occupiers since October. These attacks included violence, intimidation, theft of olives and equipment, and damage to trees, leading to losses for farmers and restricted access to their land. The escalation in such actions coincides with the start of Israel's genocide against the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
