Washington:Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that the United States warned Kyiv it would cease sharing intelligence if Ukraine continued with long-range strikes on Russian oil facilities. This warning was brought to light in a media report on Wednesday.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy expressed his views in an interview with NPR, where he criticized the Trump administration's decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel, arguing that it would not lead to lower fuel prices. He attributed the rise in diesel fuel costs to the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz rather than actions by Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also mentioned learning of a supposed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine through social media, following an announcement by the US President over the weekend. He reiterated Ukraine's stance on striking Russian energy and logistics sites to diminish Moscow's war capabilities, asserting that such actions would cease only if Russia stopped its attacks on Ukrainian energy sites.
Additionally, Zelenskyy stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin only responds to force, and he doubted that lifting sanctions on Russian diesel would affect domestic prices due to insufficient supply. He emphasized that any de-escalation must be mutual and guaranteed.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov indicated that while the Kremlin had no immediate comment on the proposed halt of strikes, discussions with the US on the matter were in progress.
