French Teen Admits School Shooting, Denies Intent to Kill

Aubagne:A 14-year-old boy has admitted to firing a hunting rifle at Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, southern France, but denies any intention to kill. The incident occurred earlier this week, injuring the school principal and a teacher before the student was disarmed by a senior education adviser.

According to Anadolu Agency, the teen claimed to have planned the attack for several months as a form of revenge for alleged harassment by teachers and classmates. However, investigators have not found evidence to support these harassment claims. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office took over the case due to suspected links between the teenager and the True Crime Community, an online subculture interested in real-life crimes.

The prosecutor's office revealed that analysis of the teen's digital media showed his use of multiple social media accounts, including ProtonMail, Discord, Snapchat, and TikTok. Initial investigations suggested his involvement with the True Crime Community, with one account dedicated to violent content related to school shootings. Although the teen acknowledged being influenced by the community, he denied conducting the shooting on its behalf.

He is now facing a judicial investigation on charges of attempted murder linked to a terrorist enterprise, terrorist conspiracy against people, and unlawful possession and transport of weapons and ammunition. Prosecutors have requested his pretrial detention.

The shooting, which happened around 930 am on Monday, led to the arrest of the teen and the subsequent custody of his parents, as authorities investigate how he obtained the weapon. The school remained closed the following day, with over 200 people gathering to support the educational staff.
