Accra:The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen reported early Friday that it intercepted and destroyed a drone heading toward Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. Meanwhile, Houthi-affiliated media noted artillery shelling in Yemen's northern border province of Saada.
According to Anadolu Agency, the coalition's brief statement did not disclose who launched the drone or its intended target. Additionally, there were no details provided regarding casualties or damage.
In a separate report, the Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah TV channel highlighted artillery shelling in parts of Al-Dhaher district in Saada province, which shares a border with Saudi Arabia. These developments occur amid ongoing military tensions between the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis.
On Thursday, the coalition announced the interception of a cruise missile over the Medina region in western Saudi Arabia. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree denied any Houthi attacks on Saudi territory that day. The day before, the coalition reported intercepting and destroying a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis toward Riyadh, resulting in one injury and minor property damage due to falling debris.
These incidents are part of a series of attacks targeting Saudi airports and energy facilities. Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government since 2015 against the Houthis, who have been in control of Sanaa and other provinces since 2014. The current escalation started in July, following a period of relative calm after a UN-brokered truce initiated in April 2022.
