Accra:Washington An attack on American photojournalist Heidi Levine in the occupied West Bank has prompted a strong reaction from the United States. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington is "very disturbed" by the reports and has urged Israel to take action to prevent such violence.
According to Anadolu Agency, Rubio emphasized the US has been in contact with its embassy to gather more details about the incident. Media reports suggest that Levine was assaulted by groups of Israeli occupiers while covering the annual Palestinian olive harvest. During the attack, Levine had her passport, phone, wallet, and camera equipment taken.
US President Donald Trump has expressed a desire to avoid any new crises or friction in the West Bank, Rubio noted. Despite lifting sanctions against Israeli occupiers on his first day in office last year, Rubio clarified that this action should not be interpreted as support for the attacks seen in recent reports.
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee also condemned the attack, calling it a "despicable act of terror." He urged Israeli authorities to prosecute those responsible and ensure they are imprisoned for their actions. Huckabee emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation and legal action against everyone involved in the attack.
