Accra:The Sudanese army has announced that it successfully thwarted an attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its ally, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), on positions in southeastern Blue Nile state. The incident occurred on Tuesday and targeted the army's positions in the Sali area.
According to Anadolu Agency, the 4th Infantry Division reported that the attack inflicted heavy losses on the RSF in terms of both personnel and equipment. The division stated that its forces repelled the attack and foiled the enemy's plan, seizing 15 fully equipped combat vehicles and destroying five others used by the attackers.
The army emphasized its commitment to countering any attempts to breach its positions and conducting field operations to enhance security and maintain control in the region. This follows a similar incident on Monday, when the army repelled another attack by the RSF and SPLM-N forces on the Al-Baraka area in Blue Nile state. Additionally, the army responded to a drone attack east of Khartoum.
The escalation in violence in Blue Nile state is part of a broader conflict that began in April 2023. This conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, primarily over disagreements concerning the unification of the military establishment, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced approximately 13 million people.
