Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Drone and Missile Over Riyadh

Riyadh:The Saudi-led coalition reported on Tuesday that it successfully intercepted and destroyed a drone in the Riyadh region. This incident marks the second attack on the same day by the Houthi group targeting the Saudi capital.

According to Anadolu Agency, the coalition announced the interception on the social media platform X, but did not provide further details about the incident.

In a subsequent statement, the coalition revealed that its forces had also destroyed the launcher used by the Houthis to fire a ballistic missile earlier on Tuesday. This attack followed explosions heard in Riyadh, which triggered a security warning.

These events occur amid escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi group, which has increasingly targeted the kingdom with missile and drone attacks. In response, the Saudi-led coalition has conducted airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.

Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition to support Yemen's internationally recognized government against the Houthis. The Houthi group has maintained control over the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces since 2014.
