FIFA Suspends Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan and Player Mostafa Zico

Atlanta:Egypt FIFA has suspended Egypt's head coach, Hossam Hassan, for three matches following remarks made after the team lost to Argentina in the World Cup round-of-16. The Egyptian Football Association announced the suspension on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the disciplinary action was a result of Egypt's 3-2 defeat to Argentina in Atlanta, US, on July 6. Mostafa Zico, a forward for the team, received a five-match ban. Additionally, Ibrahim Hassan, the team manager, was also suspended for three matches.

The Egyptian Football Association stated it is seeking detailed explanations from FIFA regarding the suspensions to explore legal options and possibly prepare an appeal. These suspensions could impact the Hassan brothers' participation in Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Malawi in November and the March international fixtures.

Mostafa Zico's suspension is expected to sideline him until June. The match against Argentina saw Egypt eliminated after losing a 2-0 lead. Controversial refereeing decisions, including a disallowed goal, and a red card issued to a member of Egypt's coaching staff contributed to the tensions during the game. Hossam Hassan later accused Argentina of unfair play in their comeback victory.
