New Delhi:US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed support for a potential summit involving the leaders of the United States, Russia, and China, describing it as "a very positive thing for the world."
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Rubio spoke to reporters in India about the opportunity for dialogue between the three nuclear-armed nations, emphasizing the importance of communication on issues like arms control. He dismissed the notion that diplomatic engagement should be seen as a reward and highlighted President Donald Trump's openness to such discussions.
Rubio underscored the significance of maintaining dialogue despite longstanding disagreements, stating that communication among the leaders of the most powerful nuclear arsenals contributes to global safety. He noted that while China has historically been reluctant to engage in arms control talks, the willingness of the US President to initiate such discussions is beneficial.
His comments followed remarks by President Trump, who expressed openness to trilateral discussions focused on nuclear disarmament with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. This proposal arose after a report by The Wall Street Journal indicated that Putin had suggested a meeting to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the continuation of discussions, acknowledging the potential for talks despite the lack of a formal agenda.
