New York:Netflix has reported earnings for the third quarter that exceeded market expectations, while its revenue matched forecasts, as the streaming giant aims to assure investors about the ongoing strength of viewer engagement.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Netflix achieved earnings per share of $0.87 for the quarter ending September 30, surpassing analysts' predictions. The company's revenue increased by nearly 12% year-on-year to $12.87 billion, in alignment with estimates, driven by membership growth and subscription price increases that were implemented in March.
The report highlighted a rise in net income to $3.66 billion from $2.55 billion a year earlier, with earnings per share growing from 59 cents. Netflix attributed part of the profit increase to the timing of expenses. It also noted that customer reactions to the price hikes were consistent with previous changes and its forecasts.
For the upcoming fourth quarter, Netflix has projected revenue of $13.44 billion, indicating growth of over 11% spurred by membership, pricing, and advertising. The company has adjusted its full-year revenue outlook to $51.1 billion, representing an annual growth of 13%, from a previous forecast range of $51 billion to $51.4 billion.
Despite facing intense competition for consumer attention, Netflix addressed investor concerns about viewing trends by asserting that engagement remains robust. The company emphasized that engagement involves the quantity, quality, and variety of viewing, and it continues to deliver substantial value to its subscribers.
To boost growth in viewing hours, Netflix has outlined three strategic priorities enhancing entertainment value, leveraging technology to improve its service, and strengthening monetization efforts. These results come in the wake of organizational changes announced last week, including plans to eliminate approximately 1,000 jobs, or around 6% of its workforce. Additionally, Bela Bajaria is stepping down as chief content officer, with former Disney executive Peter Rice set to take over the role.
