Macron Condemns Foreign Leaders’ Comments on French Protests

Doha:French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday condemned comments made by foreign leaders regarding the Oct. 17 protests in France, describing them as "unacceptable and stupid." President Macron's remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump attributed the unrest to immigration issues.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Macron accused some foreign leaders of exploiting the protests for political purposes, particularly those facing upcoming elections. Without directly naming Trump, Macron criticized leaders campaigning in various regions, including across the Atlantic, for doing so at France's expense.

The protests initially began as a student movement advocating for better school funding, but soon expanded to include unions and other groups protesting against high living costs. Trump had claimed that the unrest was not about educational grievances but rather immigration.

In response to the ongoing situation, Macron announced that France would implement all legal measures necessary to prevent further unrest during planned protests on Saturday, Oct. 24. He referenced curfews and restrictions on gatherings that have already been put in place following previous violence, asserting that those intending to cause disorder would be stopped.

Macron also addressed the issue of "foreign manipulation of information" related to the protests, revealing that artificial intelligence had been used to create fabricated images. He refuted claims that France was being invaded by migrants and Islamists, labeling such assertions as entirely false.
