Israeli Forces Accused of Turning West Bank Into Fragmented Prisons

Ramallah:Israeli forces have transformed the occupied West Bank into 'fragmented prisons,' while occupier violence has turned the region into a 'battlefield,' according to a statement by Palestinian National Initiative Secretary-General Mustafa Barghouti.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Barghouti described the situation in the West Bank, citing more than 1,300 military checkpoints imposed by the Israeli army, most of which are closed. He claimed these checkpoints have divided the cities and towns into isolated 'fragmented prisons,' severely affecting economic activity, education, and health services.

Barghouti further alleged that the Israeli army conducts raids across all West Bank governorates, engages in mass arrests, and continues repression and home demolitions. He also stated that most Palestinian farmers are hindered from accessing their lands to harvest olives. He accused Israeli occupiers of using terror gangs as a means to expand settlements, asserting that these groups persistently attack towns, villages, and cities, creating a continuous 'battlefield.'

The Palestinian official warned that the goal of this 'occupier terror war' is to expel Palestinians from their land, facilitating what he termed the 'Zionist expansionist dream' of annexation, Judaization, and displacement. He emphasized the importance of Palestinian resilience and the efforts of popular committees in confronting occupiers as central to preventing the realization of Israeli plans.

Barghouti called on the international community to cease ignoring Israeli actions and advocated for supporting Palestinian resilience through sanctions and a boycott of the occupation and settlement system, including the Israeli government. He highlighted that attacks by Israeli occupiers and the army have escalated during the olive harvest season.

Statistics indicate that approximately 750,000 Israeli occupiers reside in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, spread across 194 settlements and about 400 outposts. Israeli settlements on occupied Palestinian land are deemed illegal under international law.
