Sanaa:At least 1,574 individuals have died, and 6,939 have been injured since the latest military escalation in Yemen began in August, according to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO).
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the UN health agency reported a total of 8,513 casualties from the start of August, comprising both the deaths and injuries as of October 19. The report did not clarify whether these casualties included civilians, military personnel, or both.
The WHO highlighted that in the most recent eight-day reporting period, 292 people were killed and 1,048 were injured. Prior to this, WHO had previously recorded 1,282 deaths and 5,891 injuries since August 6, 2026, before the figures increased to the current numbers.
The ongoing conflict in Yemen began when the Houthis took control of Sanaa and several other provinces in 2014. This prompted a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015, backing the internationally recognized government. Presently, the Houthis control most of northern and western Yemen, while government forces and their allies maintain control over Aden and significant parts of the southern and eastern regions.
